Miles, race, and year, that is. Sounds suspiciously calculating, doesn’t it? But it’s just a mere coincidence! To break it down, that’s 7 5ks, 2 10ks, and 1 10-miler.
After two years of putting it off, I have finally conquered the Army Ten Miler. I was able to beat my goal time of 1:35 by nearly 6 minutes. Kudos to all my amazing friends for running and finishing the race this year, and a special thanks to my family and PV for coming to support me!
I also completed my original goal of running the race in my Vibrams. It was actually quite surprising to see very few other runners in them — I only saw four other people, and of the four, two were my friends! This made me feel like a walking advertisement as I had several people approach me with questions about them. One person suggested I read Born to Run by Christopher McDougall — this is the book that started the barefoot/minimalist running craze. I had heard of it before, but have not read it yet. I will definitely add it to the list though.
Now, I want more. I’m going to take it up a notch next year and attempt at least one of each of the following races: a 10-miler, a half marathon, and a sprint triathlon. Cheers to running and fitness! What are your fitness goals for 2011?
